At this time, unlike Real Estate/Real Property Appraisers there are no state or federal licensing or educational requirements to be a Personal Property Appraiser. A well trained jeweler or gemologist is able to tell you what the item is, but additional education in valuation methodology is needed to ensure you have got the correct values on your items. In addition to being a Certified Gemologist Appraiser, Joel is one of only 2 “Certified Gemologist Appraiser – Instructors” and is chair of the Appraisal Standards Committee for the American Gem Society.
Insurance Appraisals
Our appraisals are accepted by all insurance companies. Our belief is a more detailed appraisal helps ensure a more detailed and accurate replacement from your insurance company. Certain policies and carriers require additional appraisals from appraisers to verify sales receipts and descriptions.
- Values for Retail Replacement
- Damage assessments for partial loss of value
Estate Appraisals
Fair Market Value appraisals are used for a variety of purposes. We meet the IRS requirements for a “qualified appraisal” by a “qualified appraiser” as outlined in IRS Pub. 561 and IRS Revenue Proc. 66-49 as well as the standards set forth in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
- Gift/Inheritance Tax
- Equitable Distribution
Other Reports
Aside from full appraisals, we also offer reports for a variety of other purposes. Not sure exactly what type of report you need? We are happy to help. Here are just a few:
- Dissolution of Marriage
- Proof of Ownership for Customs Declarations
- Personal Jewelry Portfolios
